What is meant by the phrase, “Ghosts” in the nursery? The phrase “ghosts from the nursery” is used to refer to the unresolved issues from the mother’s conflicted past that comes to prevent them from providing proper parenting to their babies. It involves the mother’s traumatic past being re-enacted with her infant, a situation which leads to a lack of a strong bond between the mother and the child. The traumatic past of a mother can come to haunt them during their parenting days, creating a threat in the relationship between the mother and the child. There is, therefore, a need for an early intervention to ensure that such a traumatic past do not come back to affect the relationship between the child and the mother.  What is meant by the phrase, “Angels” in the nursery? The phrase “Angels in the Nursery” is used to refer to the good parenting, love, and care that a child receives from the parent and which helps build a strong relationship with between the parent and a child when one becomes a parent. While traumatic past can lead to maltreatment, when a child receives love and care from the parent, such a child will become a good parent who loves and cares for her child when she becomes a parent and this can help remove the cycle of maltreatment and weak bond between the mother and the child that results from the traumatic mother’s past.  What does the concept of having ghosts and/or angels in the nursery mean for children who have suffered abuse, neglect or trauma? The concept “Angels in the Nursery” through the uncovering angles of growth that are the promoting forces in the lives of the traumatized parents can help promote a strong bond between the child and the mother and reduce the maltreatment. This concept is beneficial to the children with traumatic past because, through psychotherapy, they can erase all these past traumatic feelings and develop positive feelings. As a result, they can become parents who develop and maintain a strong bond with their children and remove the cycle of intergenerational maltreatment.
