In support of the UMKC mission of leading in the life and health sciences, the UMKC School of Nursing and Health Studies mission is to prepare the nursing and other health professional workforce as leaders in improving health outcomes through inter-professional practice, research, and education; excel in the delivery and improvement of health care to diverse populations including urban, rural, and under-served areas; and create diverse and dynamic campus and virtual learning communities.
From my life experiences, I support the UMKC School of Nursing and Health Studies (SoNHS) Mission. I have struggled with being overweight all of my life and within the last two years I have dedicated my life to learning and applying education on clean eating and exercise and it have paid off since I have lost 75 pounds of my previous weight. Through inter professional practice; I have learnt the principles of exercising and weight loss that has improved my health outcome.

In return, I have shared the same with community members through educating them on the importance of exercising regularly. This has extended to the point of helping them to develop work out plans for their exercise regimen. Moreover, I conduct my regular exercises together with some members of communities around the campus as a demonstration of its essence hence a way of passing virtual information to the community. Through the diverse and dynamic campus created, I have extended my knowledge to help other individuals achieve weight loss as a way of improving the health of the community around me. I teach them on importance of portion control in preventing weight gain and in weight loss. Through this initiative, my leadership role in improving health outcomes through application of the gained knowledge has become a reality.
