Nursing research is a significant aspect that provides evidence that helps in supporting nursing practices. Nursing research is essential as it helps to obtain crucial information that may be relevant in the day to day nursing practices. The nurses must capitalize on understanding different aspects that relate to nursing research and identify the basic principles related to the study. Understanding the basic principle of the survey enables the nurses to engage in effective practices considering that they have adequate information that concerns their method. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the qualitative and quantitative research to obtain a better understanding of the key attributes associated with each of the research methods. The paper will evaluate the types of each research method and discuss how each method may help in improving nursing practices.

Quantitative Research

Quantitative research is a method of study that capitalizes on the use of numerical systems to measure variables. Quantitative analysis is essential as it helps in the provision of descriptive data that provides reliable and valid information that is significant for any given study. A significant type of quantitative research is descriptive design, which is a method that seeks to describe the current status of any given phenomenon (Leung, 2015). An important aspect regarding the descriptive design is based on the fact that data collection is carried out through observations. Quantitative research is significant in nursing research, as it may help to improve nursing practices. Considering that quantitative research focuses on the collection of data through observation, it is possible that nurses may prioritize on observing the patients obtain crucial information concerning the care delivery process, which helps in promoting efficiency in the nursing practices.

Qualitative Research

Qualitative research is a method that focuses on obtaining non-numerical data by engaging in an in-depth analysis of different aspects. Qualitative research focuses on providing an understanding of the concepts, definitions, and characteristics of the critical elements addressed within a study (Bryman, 2017). Qualitative research is essential as it provides an in-depth understanding of the subject in a study. Additionally, qualitative research is an open-ended process that helps in the provision of rational thoughts and responses regarding a specific issue in research. The standard type of qualitative research is the Phenomenological method, which utilizes interviews, surveys, and observations as the primary strategies to obtain information regarding a study. The qualitative research is significant in improving nursing practices considering the provision of in-depth information concerning the definitions and characteristics of different aspects in a study (Grove, Gray, & Faan, 2019). The research method enables nurses to obtain responses concerning care delivery processes.

Research Sampling

Research sampling refers to a process that involves the selection of a statistical population to help in creating an estimated characteristic for a whole society. Research sampling is essential as it helps to obtain relevant and reliable information using a short time considering that a researcher does not require to have the whole population to engage in research. The universal sampling strategy in quantitative research is probability sampling, where the sample is selected randomly. In probability sampling, there is an equal chance of selection for everyone in a given population., which is an aspect that helps in calculating sampling error. Another significant sampling of the method is convenience sampling, which is a technique that involves recruiting participants that are readily accessible by the researcher. Additionally, convenience sampling consists of the use of samples that may have adequate information regarding a specific issue such as professionals in a given field.

Credible Nursing Practice

In nursing practices, it is essential to have trustworthy information that may help in different processes involving decision making. In most cases, nurses face a significant challenge that consists of a lack of adequate and reliable information that meet the required standards for evidence-based nursing practices. Nursing research is essential in creating safer nursing practices, considering the provision of accurate and reliable information (Rutberg & Bouikidis, 2018). Through the research, the nurses may have the ability to understand the challenges that are experienced by the patients during the delivery of healthcare services. Nursing research is crucial in evidence-based nursing practise as it helps in the evaluation of risks and strengths of different aspects regarding the nursing practices. Additionally, research helps in enhancing decision-making processes, which is a crucial aspect of evidence-based practices.

Conclusion

Nursing research is a significant aspect that helps towards enhancing nursing practices and improving the overall care delivery processes to the patients. Understanding nursing research requires a nurse to familiarize with the basic principles of research to help in identifying the most effective method that would help in improving the nursing practices. The most important aspects of nursing research include quantitative and qualitative research methods. The two different research methods have different approaches towards obtaining data, which is an aspect that creates a significant difference like information obtained. It is essential for the nurses to capitalize on the implementation of appropriate research methods that help in enhancing their practices and those that can improve on the delivery of care to the patients. Nursing research is significant as it helps in strengthening evidence-based nursing practices.
