Albert Ellis’ ABC Model indicates that it is not the circumstances, event, or individuals that make people have certain feelings, but the interpretation. A- Portrays antecedent, the situation responsible for a particular reaction. B- Describes beliefs; these are the thoughts, views, or understanding of an event. C- Describes consequences, which is the manner in which person feels or behaves. In Oprah’s case study, A- Stands for Oprah being neglected by her mother, making her vulnerable, leading to rape by her cousin. B- Stands for Oprah adopting immoral behaviors such as stealing, became undisciplined, having sex with various men, and running away.
