Complete the following required worksheet using the required article for the current session. Access the required article from the assignment guidelines.

Purpose of the Study: Using information from the required article and your own words, summarize the purpose of the study. Describe what the study is about.

Since few studies have been carried out to identify ways to prevent and treat black eye, the present study was aimed at comparing two nursing interventions that are involved in the prevention of dry eye in grownups placed in the intensive care unit. The two interventions are liquid artificial tears and artificial tears gel ( De Araujo et al., 2019 ).

Research & Design: Using information from the required article and your own words, summarize the description of the type of study and the design of the study. Include how it supports the purpose (aim or intent) of the study.

The subject research is quantitative in nature since it was numerical, non-descriptive, and applied statistics. It also involves the use of numbers ( Parkes, 2019 ). In each step of the data collection, there was the recording of numerical data. The design of the research was experimental in that the study involved a series of tests conducted on the eyes of the patients in the sample ( De Araujo et al., 2019 ).

Sample: Using information from the required article and your own words, summarize the population (sample) for the study; include key characteristics, sample size, sampling technique.

There were two parallel groups of patients. The patients were 18 years of age or older, without a diagnosis of dry eye when being admitted to the ICU, had a blink rate of fewer than five times per minute, and a Glasgow Coma Scale score of seven or lower. Patients were to be in ICU for 48 hours or more and without any brain injury. The pilot study was of 30 patients between November 2015 and December 2015. The patients were divided into three groups: liquid tears gel, liquid artificial tears, and 0.9 percent sodium chloride solution, to approximate the sample size. The estimated sample size had 134 patients, while the initial study population was made up of 546 patients ( De Araujo et al., 2019 ).

Data Collection: Using information from the required article and your own words, summarize one data that was collected and how the data was collected from the study.

One data collected was from the Schimer test, which gave tear volume. It pertained placing a strip of Whatman filter paper grade forty-one at the base of the lower conjunctival sac in the temporal region. After five minutes, the strip was taken off from that region, and results measured and recorded ( De Araujo et al., 2019 ).

Data Analysis: Using information from the required article and your own words, summarize one of the data analysis/ tests performed or one method of data analysis from the study; include what you know/learned about the descriptive or statistical test or data analysis method.

The Epi Info software was used to check data for consistency, which is a data analysis step that is used to clean data. Checking data for consistency removes any redundancy and outliers in the given data ( De Araujo et al., 2019 ).

Limitations: Using information from the required article and your own words, summarize one limitation reported in the study.

The study involved only patients in the ICU, and the selected interventions were conducted once per day. But it is recommended that treatment be administered whenever necessary ( De Araujo et al., 2019 ).

Findings/Discussion: Using information from the required article and your own words, summarize one of the authors' findings/discussion reported in the study. Include one interesting detail you learned from reading the study.

Artificial tears gel has better outcomes as compared to liquid artificial tears when used to prevent dry eye in critically ill people ( De Araujo et al., 2019 ).

Interesting detail : It is crucial for nurses to implement an intervention that is aimed at preventing or minimize the development of the dry eye.

Reading Research Literature : Summarize why it is important for you to read and understand research literature. Summarize what you learned from completing the reading research literature activity worksheet.

From this journal article, I have learned that it is essential that one understands their research interest, craft a researchable question, and from that, they will be able to select a research design and methodology. Without getting these correct, it will be challenging to achieve the goal of a study.
