The concept of impartial moral reasoning depends on inherent convictions of families and cultures. Racial biases, sexism, and homophobia have no place in moral appraisal. The human capacity that entails disinterested moral reasoning results in liberation movements that help in challenging dominant traditions, which are often oppressive. The inclusion of women’s rights, civil rights, and gay rights in the functioning of society could have resulted in immoral reasoning that could have eventually driven people to societal rot that thwarts moral progress. Notably, moral progress depends on two major stages including large-scale recognition and rejection of speciesism. This implies that integrating sexism and racism in logical reasoning bares discrimination, which necessitates the application of moral consideration. The idea of moral consideration does not apply to strangers in Kin morality since humans share this stratum with all other social animals existing on planet Earth. Community morality extends to considerations about strangers in the whole community rather than just a tribe. However, this social stratum is shared by humans but not with all other animals since humans cared for their people and the neighboring societies. Additionally, religious morality and nationalism apply to considerations beyond a single local community but rather the global religion or nation-state perspectives. With regards to human rights, men and women were created equal without any race being inferior to the other. This is because of the abundant reason and conscience that preserve the dignity and rights of humanity; hence, promoting the spirit of brotherhood. Philosophically, human rights remain the only tool for promoting moral progress while eliminating possible immorality and unjustifiable discriminations that drive society backward. By appreciating the importance of human rights, man can avoid the latent prejudice that disregards animal rights, which are moral considerations for protecting sentient beings. Mammals, for instance, are equally important just like humans since the different species have similar hormones and biological central nervous systems like man. However, humans cling to a profoundly disturbing thought claiming that animals can survive severe pain and suffering. This is untrue since the concept of empathy and reason extend moral considerations beyond just oppression but includes even the protection of marginalized populations that experience illegitimacy and impartial and authoritative rule. Therefore, the relationship between humans and animals are dependent on three tenets that are inclusive of ridicule, strong opposition, and acceptance. In other words, people can attain change and realize moral progress if and only if they can challenge tradition, existing social norms, and reorganize themselves while addressing moral hypocrisy that curtails development. Precisely, the idea of speciesism is a contributing factor to discrimination in animal and human society just like racism and sexism.
The though-experiment ascertains that destroying or mistreating animals by causing either terminal illnesses or grave injuries to a cheetah, for instance, deteriorates the quality of life of the animal. This is similar to the case of human beings who have distinct values and emotions while considering the impacts of a given action on the survival and lives of others. In this regard, humans must be ethically considerable and they should make moral claims in protecting other animals including plants and all living beings from injustices. Just like humans, animals also make claims for our moral attention since their lives can either improve or deteriorate depending on the physical conditions they have been subjected to. For instance, they an experience unbearable pain originating from either physical or psychological harm that thwarts their interests. Therefore, we should create a peaceful environment where we live harmoniously with each other and with other animals to satisfy the interests of every party and avoid conflicts that would undermine the wellness of others. This calls for action for all humans to create a serene atmosphere for both animals and man to ensure that all living creatures are living in an ideal world. This can be achieved through theoretical frameworks that guide human understanding of how to respond to conflicting interests on an ethical basis to shape our actions and completely eradicate conflicts.
