The healthcare industry involves different players who will make decisions on the well-being of the patients at one point or the other. As decision making is dispersed across numerous entities, it is highly likely that the risk for liability and the development of challenges is extremely high. Such aspects in healthcare will require appropriate occurrence and peer review activities which require legal protection. Therefore, legal protection is necessary because it provides the protection of any and all data available in voluntary reporting systems for being discovered. This in turn ensures that the welfare of all involved parties in the reporting system is safeguarded while ensuring to keep anonymity ( Stevens, Kress & Dublin, 2016) . Legal protection also ensures that any reporters or those who receive reports, and can be easily identified are protected from possible subpoena. It also allows the reporting system to identify and retain any necessary information that can lead to the leak of identities for the reports and their reporters ( Stevens, Kress & Dublin, 2016)

Legal protection for occurrence reporting and peer review activities provides the opportunity for anonymity especially for the reporters ensuring that they maintain a safe and conducive environment. Some reports may have touched on other employees and may therefore result in the reporter being criminalized by those who have been reported. Legal protection ensures that such individuals are protected from the wrath of the rest thus maintaining or improving their overall performance. It further informs that organization the various areas that are affected by the many occurrences and this will facilitate the development of long-lasting solutions and prevention strategies (Carroll & American Society for Healthcare Risk Management (ASHRM), 2013). The organization will then ensure that every department is well-facilitated to prevent negative occurrences thus promoting the effectiveness in organizational operations.
