Relocation means moving from one place to another (Seeman & Williams, 2004); during mid-20 th century the United States used the urban relocation and termination to assimilate Indians. Since other tribes such as the Germans, Italians, Poles, and Irish had already assimilated into the American society, the Americans also wanted the Indians to do the same. The Indians still followed their old ways such as language and culture and Americans termed it as the source of their poverty thus the Indians had to adapt to the new ways of lives of the American society to end their poverty lives.

The methods of promising Indians better jobs, free housing, and medical care, and giving them free tickets to the cities was used to make it easy for the Indians to be willing and move to the towns without much questioning thus making the relocation to urban successful.

Identity in American Indian communities has continually been a subject of controversial debate among official scholars, historians, and federal policy-makers. American Indians have a unique connection with the United States, and their identity has persistently been redefined and reconstructed (Castile, 2000).
