Introduction

Notably, few institutions in the United States experience the same evolution as the essence of motherhood in the last 50 years. Critically, based on existing research and statistics, more women are having their children at different stages in their lives. For example, there are women who have children at advanced ages in their lives while others before marriage or with unmarried partners. In regards to this trend, single motherhood is a common trend in the United States. The purpose of this paper is to explore and examine the conclusions of the authors in the assigned case to evaluate the validity and credibility of their findings on the issue of unmarried with children in the United States.

Based on the information offered in the paper, the author concludes that until the poor young women have enhanced access to jobs leading and financial independence, low-income earners will continue to have children far sooner in comparison to the ideal rate among the Americans. Additionally, the author believes that in avoiding divorce and marrying well, the poor decide to remain unmarried because they are unwilling to make promises they cannot keep. I agree with these sentiments or conclusions by the author in the research as economic dependence plays a critical role in the growing challenges among the women who have children while remaining unmarried.

In my opinion, I believe that these reasons are valid. I believe the author highlights numerous reasons that might apply to poor women to remain single in spite of having children. Nonetheless, I still believe that there are other contributing factors to this growing phenomenon in America. Various researchers have been on the forefront to highlight the fact that poor women remain single in the United States because of the unique reasons or contributing factors. One of the issues contributing to the rise in children living with single parents is the long-term declines in marriage (Livingston, 2018). There is a substantial increase in the number of births outside of the marriage institution. There is also the issue of race, as the number of such cases tends to vary by racial diversity. In modern society, more and more women are entering the labor force; thus, the chance to become breadwinners.

In most cases, these women become the primary breadwinners in their respective families. These create room in which parents in modern society have to deal with the expectations of raising children in the increasingly diverse and evolving forms of the family. In research done by the BBC, over 16 million Americans engage in the act of raising children while they remain unmarried (Brown, 2018). These findings highlight that the issue of unmarried with children is on the increase in the U.S. Numerous poor women revere marriage rather than reject entry into this marriage institution. There seems to be diversity in the opinion on the issue based on gender. Women tend to conceptualize their children as providers of the social-psychological resources with a strong sense of purpose. The children act as sources of intimacy as opposed to liabilities based on their economic positions and challenges.
