A law enforcement agency is a government organization responsible for ensuring the constitution, laws, and policies are upheld, and threats to the security and well being of Americans are averted. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is among many agencies in American law enforcement operations in the department of justice. The FBI is mandated with locating witnesses, gathering evidence, compiling, and reporting facts in cases related to Federal jurisdiction. The FBI has earned a reputation for protecting America over the past one hundred years. Even so, it has also faced many diverse threats that are dangerous and global in nature.
The FBI was founded on July 26 th , 1908, when the U.S. Attorney General Charles Bonaparte instructed a category of new appointees in federal investigators to give account to Chief Examiner Stanley W. Finch of the Department of Justice. A year later, the Office of the Chief Examiner was retitled the Bureau of Investigation and changed to the Federal Bureau of investigation in 1935 (Oliver, 2019). The agency’s mission is to give protection and shield the U.S.; to present authority and criminal justice systems to the state, federal national and international authorities; and also to defend and impose the criminal acts of the U.S. constitution.

The FBI carries out various duties and responsibilities to ensure that, as a law enforcement agency, it has served to its maximum capabilities. Its jurisdiction involves the responsibilities of the national security, civil, and criminal fields. FBI’s scope of operations mainly focuses on areas like cyber-crimes, national and international capital offenses, counterintelligence, and counterterrorism. It takes part in connecting law enforcement initiatives that combat crime to state, federal, and local agencies. The FBI coordinates professional investigations in identifying, discriminating, and disassembling emerging criminal operations that threaten the safety and welfare of American citizens. This involves identifying and countering the threats created by domestic and external terrorists and bringing the perpetrators of such crimes to justice. Protection against cyber terrorism is another integral role of the agency. It does so by joining together the workforce of the United States Government departments and agencies in protecting the states evaluative infrastructures. Last but not least, it assesses and reviews work performances and operations to guarantee the compliance of business organizations and state officials with the law, rules, and regulations, ensuring economic efficiency and effectiveness (Oliver, 2019).
The 21 st Century presents unique challenges that impede the operations of the FBI. With advanced technology, terrorists have decentralized their networks and militia. The increasing number of U.S. netizens poses a security threat due to their training and experience in radicalized groups. Technology bolsters there challenges by inspiring the activities of terror groups through social media, recruiting the members on the internet, and encouraging the attacks to be carried out at home. The state and non-state foes of the U.S. have become more adaptive in their strategies, have advanced in technology, and become more successful in their terrorist operations (Christie, 2019). They take advantage of the advanced technology to boost the real-time flow of their operational information, finances, databases, purchase and shipment of weapons. The FBI thus requires integrating advanced use of technology in their training and operations to effectively combat the threats.
