In this assignment, the Afrobarometer dataset has been used. The two variables of my interest are country by region and Country's economic condition compared to 12 months ago. Basically, country by region is aimed at measuring different occurrences of social changes from different regions of the continent. These regions are West Africa, East Africa, Southern Africa and North Africa, (Ifinedo, 2005). Through these regions, levels of social change and its implications can be determined hence deriving a conclusion. The second variable which is Country's economic condition compared to 12 months ago is aimed at measuring the level of economic growth from every country. The study populations have an opportunity to give their opinions as far as the country’s economic growth is concerned, (Borjas, 2008). Specifically, it helps to identify whether a given have improved in its economic growth or not. The unit of analysis is different regions of the countries and perceptions of the people towards a country economic condition compared to 12 months ago.

For the variable; country by region, the level of measurement is categorical data (Nominal data). Here, the responses from the study population are put into groups or categories, (De Vaus, & de Vaus, 2013). The responses do not have any numerical values but instead are assigned to each category.

For the variable; Country's economic condition compared to 12 months ago, the level of measurement is ordinal data where data were arranged in a specific order. In this case, when arranged in categories, they must ascend or descend, (Zar, 1999). Given that the responses were on a ranking scale thus produce ordinal data.

These variables can be used to answer a social change concern. For instance, economic growth can be established based on the country’s region hence knowing the region which is more developed than the other.

The implication for social change can be established based on the developed region of the country. Through, a focus can be put in regions of the continent which are not adequately developed.
