For governments and humanitarian organizations to be able to provide quality care to vulnerable populations, they need to define the needs of the latter group. The elderly, pregnant women, minors, and malnourished people, among others, have diverse needs that policymakers need to know. The needs of vulnerable groups span safety, healthcare, housing, food, and equity, among others ( Rolnitsky, Kirtsman, Goldberg, Dunn & Bell, 2018 ). Populations are vulnerable due to inadequate access to resources, protection, and individual limitations imposed on them by their living situations. All people deserve access to critical resources such as food, clean water, shelter, housing, and sanitation. Defining these needs will give governments and humanitarian groups insights on how to solve the problems facing vulnerable groups.

Defining the needs of vulnerable groups enhances quality improvements, thus laying down the foundation for reducing inequity and improving care and service delivery. For governments and charitable organizations to advance help to vulnerable populations, they must understand their strengths and abilities. In order for policymakers to solve problems facing vulnerable people in society, they must recognize and build upon the traditional coping systems such as families and local communities ( Bender et al., n.d ). Observation and analysis are the critical activities required in order to understand the needs of vulnerable groups. These strategies will assist in avoiding advancing help in a piecemeal way since enough information about their needs will be available. Timely assessing needs such as nutritional status, health, housing, and clothing will enable the concerned teams to focus on the most vulnerable. Last, defining the psychological needs of vulnerable people will help reduce their susceptibilities ( Bender et al., n.d ). Providing material help should be coupled with understanding and establishing mechanisms to elevate the psychological needs of vulnerable people.
