Basing my analysis on the Washington State midterm elections, the Washington post which I viewed on November 7, offered a comprehensive coverage of various issues and initiatives pertaining to different races. One of the factors highlighted is the massive win the democrats were able to attain by taking over a chamber of Congress ( Washington Post, 2018, 0.13). Another issue illustrated is diversity. For instance, the first openly gay governor in Colorado, Jared Polis ( Washington Post, 2018, 1.07). The news source also discusses the first two women from the religion of Islam who were elected to Congress as well as the substantial number of women who were selected to join Congress. Also addressed, is the immigration strategy proposed by President Trump which failed miserably ( Washington Post, 2018, 2.50).

Alternatively, a CNN coverage which I also viewed on 7th November provided a detailed analysis of the midterm elections in Washington. One of the chief factors covered is the idea of Democrats voting overwhelmingly for women. Also the Senate representation by Democrats has been likened to a pipe dream owing to the sheer dominance of Republicans (CNN, 2018, 2.18). Another significant issue discussed pertains to the Democrats using their significant majority to launch investigations into Trump`s administration.

It is, nonetheless, necessary to note that the reporting was very objective owing to its ability to cover a wide range of issues within such a short span of time. Also, its objectiveness further extends to its ability to cover most of the contentious issues in Washington State elections.

There are a number of things which I would have done differently in order to improve the coverage of events. For instance, in the Washington post, there is inadequate coverage of various races between candidates which is a factor I would strive to improve. Also, the source fails to cover the general outcome of both the senate and governor races. I would seek to provide a detailed coverage which summarizes the outcome. The general reporting, however, did a good job in regards to informing the audience.

Further deficiencies are lurking in the CNN news source by Chris Cillizza. For instance, it does not cover a wide variety of issues pertaining to the diversity of candidates which is something that I would focus on changing. Also, little has been mentioned about how the elections are likely to impact on Washington. Instead, a generalized summary of the entire elections has been provided. In order to change this, I would make specific emphasis on issues which are likely to change pending the outcome of the elections. One can, nevertheless, observe that this kind of reporting did not do a good job in informing the audience.
