Evaluation of information sources is essential, given access to an overwhelming volume of information on the Web. Reliable, up-to-date, and unbiased information can be used for scholarly arguments in various subjects. In that regard, the five universal criteria; currency, authority, accuracy, objectivity, and coverage can be applied to examine the information source before consuming critically.

Accuracy

Tate (2019)  defines the authority of information as the extent to which an information source has a definitive knowledge about a subject area. My selected online Web source is not only free from grammatical and typographical errors but also factual and can be verified in other sources.

Authority

Tate (2019) defines the authority of information as the extent to which information is free from errors and reliable. The Web source is published by a reputable institution, which is Taylor and Francis Group. Also, the author’s name is listed on the page of the book.

Objectivity

The objectivity of information is measured by how a material source expresses unbiased and undistorted information (Tate, 2019). The content of information in the web sources appears to contain unbiased information. Furthermore, I do not see nor sense any obvious advertising from the Web source

Currency

The information source is current if it can be recognized as up-to-date (Tate, 2019). The information has several publications with the first edition being in 2012 and the most current version published in 2019. The information in the Web page is up-to-date with the links also current.

Coverage

Tate (2019) defines information coverage as the range of topics included in information and the depth these topics are addressed. All the Web sources’ topics are clearly presented and discussed successfully with adequate support material to substantiate them. The information on the Web site is no free, rather requires a fee for viewing.
