At the mid of 19 th century, the United States and other western countries had received the introduction of Buddhism from the increasing number of immigrants. Most of the immigrants come from China, Japan and other Southern Asian countries where the religion is popular, and it has been gaining a foothold among western intellectuals and the young generation which is in search of fresh forms of religious expression and experience. The development of Buddhism interest in the western is due to the effort of Buddhist missionaries like D.T. Suzuki, a Japanese scholar and also the Tibetan Buddhist teachers who migrated to the west after Chinese conquest in 1959. Today, there is mixing of religion especially in schools, and the Asian Buddhist teachers are confident that establishing the existing schools in the western is possible. We currently have western Theravada, western Zen, and the likes, but the Buddhist in the western is inspired by the urge to reconnoiter the entire Buddhist tradition and also common needs which is breaking the boundaries.

In addition, mindfulness forms the meeting point for the west and Buddhism. The mindfulness practices of Buddhist are now being utilized to the western lifestyle from eating out to mental health treatment. The adopted approaches indicate the dominance of Buddhist influence on the western culture primarily through social action, arts, conservationism and the lives of practitioners and psychiatric therapists. The arrival of Tibetan lamas in 1970s can be the satisfaction of Shangri-La fantasies. However, apart from bringing wisdom and inspiration, they are the source of Tulku system, sectarian disputes, deep conservatism, shamanism, and tantric practices. Buddhism has been a marginalized subculture, but there is growing recognition of pluralism value, with the increasing population of the Western Buddhists, its profile is rising in the west considering its ancient religious tradition.
