Question One

The reason behind the superb performance of any given health centre is traced to the leadership structure and strategy (McCausland, 2012) . As such, to have a productive and high performing hospital, it is essential to have competent and ethical leaders. Leadership competencies are the behaviour and skills embraced by a leader; the skills contribute to the superior performance of a particular institution (Joseph, 2015) . As the Assistant Director of Nursing, I firmly believe I am an effective leader because of my aptitude to uphold and embrace the core leadership competencies.

First, I have embraced proper communication in the state hospital. Leaders use interpersonal, networking and conflicts resolution skills to effectively relate to others with a sense of mutual respect and empathy (CHHS ,2017). Concerning the latter, I have managed to maintained proper communication with my senior in an event where a particular situation calls for superior concern. Also, I provide consultations to staff nurses and interdisciplinary colleagues in conjunction with a preceptor, and obtain feedback with a keen interest or negotiate on the clinical issue to come to an understanding. Practising proper communication between my senior and juniors reflects a sense of an effective leader.

What’s more, the staffing minimum is always maintained thanks to decision making. The ability to poses problem solving and critical thinking skills is an essential aspect for any leader ( UCSF ,2017). The understaffing issue in the institution under my sphere is marginally maintained due to the ability to make decisions and strategically plan a structural scheme and proactively execute high risks to maintain minimum staffing. Leaders are inundated to champion change and take significant risks for the benefit of the whole institute (Courtney,2015). As such, an effective leader is daring.

More importantly, I promote cooperation and cohesion to achieve teamwork. I effectively guide and coach workmates, and be guided in a somewhat supportive setting. Teamwork encourages collaboration and enhances performance (CHHS ,2019). Thus; the reflection of effective leader derives from practical cooperation in the institute.

Question Five

The LGM program is critical for any aspiring leader. The program is centred on shaping and transforming the leadership skills of individuals (CHHS ,2019). The advantages of active participation in the program are enormous, and it is not only critical to the leaders, but also to the entire organization they serve (Kolisa,2019. As the Assistant Director of Nursing, the participation in the program comes with several benefits for me and the organization I serve in general.

First, the program would enhance my leadership skills. LGM focus on transforming leaders, curving the best skills and competencies out them to achieve efficacy in an organization (Kolisa,2019). Out of the program, I believe I would be a fully baked leader with the ability think faster, do extra work, to handle situations in a better way and increase the odds to achieve the primary goal of healthcare. I would be, indeed, beneficial.

The program also would provoke positive personal growth. Influential nurse leaders have the confidence to review and analyze their work procedures honestly and think of ways to improve on them (SHRM, 2018). Since the program offers a chance for self-realization and transformation, I can immensely improve when it comes to self-assessment. This is because I can measure my work-related progress as a leader and work on my weakness. When a leader falls below the standard, he/she would be willing to make changes that will take the performance to the next level (Office For Victims of Crime ,2019. From this, it is evident that the program can influence personal growth.

Also, the program can be beneficial to my organization by promoting efficacy. A Proper organization is vital to the success of a nursing team (Smolowitz et al.,2015). Lacking a proper institute, chaos is probable to ensue. After participating and learning from the program, I can influence my organization by far much better decision making and quick problem-solving strategies. A proper structure and strategy are generally of great benefit to an organization (McCausland, 2012). Therefore, with the excellent strategy learned from the program, I can make my organization efficient.

More importantly, the organization can benefit through increased productivity. A consistent leadership mentoring program can increase the productivity and efficiency in an organization. At its fundamental level, leadership is all about understanding your people enthusiastically (Smolowitz et al.,2015). Practically, emotional intellect implicates being smart about reactions and using empathy efficiently to empower and involve workers. A leadership mentorship program that encompasses emotional intelligence can improve these artistic skills among managers, directors and employees, thus increasing productivity and efficiency.
