Benchmarking is the continuous identification and adoption of outstanding practices with an end goal of improving an organization’s performance (Hughes, 2012). The exercise yields improvements in quality, productivity and financial outcomes.
Upon identification of the benchmarking practice (coding production), I would first conduct a literature search and look for educational programs to learn about production coding best practices. I would take part in AHIMA to search for showcased best practices. To study boosting best practices, talking to colleagues inside and outside the organization would reveal production code practices which the hospital can embrace, adopt and implement (Hughes, 2012). Additionally, I would develop a questionnaire as a guide to on site visits and telephone interviews in an attempt to acquire as much information on production coding as possible. Upon collection of sufficient data on best coding practices, the next phase will entail discussing the findings with my organization staff. Holding a deliberation will enable the team to decide which practices can be adapted by the organization and which ones cannot ( Neves, Totrov & Abagyan, 2012) . Upon approval of the best production coding practices, I would move forward and draft budget and proposal requests, design procedures and policies, carry out necessary staff training on production coding practices adopted and finally implement the new program in the organization ( Ettorchi-Tardy, Levif & Michel, 2012) . The best practice package selected should;
Delegate your assignment to our experts and they will do the rest.
Provide mobile access to relevant and timely coding
Have ease of access of electronic health records from multiple sources.
Allow emergency department coding, ancillary test coding, ambulatory and outpatient procedures coding.
Upon implementation of the production coding package, I would develop an incentive program that permits timely transcription, editing and access to coding oriented professional development. I would later present the idea to the top managemnet to seek their approval and funding support. Once given a go-ahead, I would continue implementing each of the processes to improve productivity coding. I would also have the staff trained to enable them generate periodic progress reports to monitor improvement realized and undertake yearly cost benefit analysis.
