The term theory refers to statements that are developed through a process of continued abstractions; the theory is generalized statements that aim at explaining a phenomenon (Nilsen, 2015) . However, the term can be used in many ways. Nursing instructors and student in classroom use theory as opposed to the actual practice of performing nursing actions. It explains how the phenomenon is interrelated. The theory seeks to explain how two concepts are related. The nursing theory explains systematically events in which concepts are identified, and predictions are made to explain the research.
Model refers to a purposeful representation of reality and uses a symbolic representation of a conceptualization (Nilsen, 2015) . Hence a model uses visual and diagrams to show theoretical relationships with the aim of guiding behavior. Models can be said to be theories represented in a picture form.

The framework, on the other hand, is a relational underpinning of a study. Every study has a framework even when it is not based on a certain theory or a model (Nilsen, 2015). The framework is a foundation where the theory and model are based on. It is the entity between the model and the method and contains structures for the realization of a goal. Many frameworks may contain one or more models based on techniques.
While the three methods are important in learning framework is the most relevant in nursing. The framework is important in generating patient data necessary for diagnosing and determining the patient outcome. The nursing framework is vital in planning the care and documentation of data obtained (Maillet, Mathieu & Sicotte, 2015) . In using nursing frameworks, one can be able to reflect on the interaction of the biological, psychological and cultural dimensions of human beings. Nursing practices are based on these dimensions.
