As a nursing professional, decisions regarding patients that are direct and lie within a nurse’s area of practice represent the main focus of a nurse’s agency. Due to the fact that there is no moral aspect directly related to health care services in the first sphere of the figure, my professional actions are a moral agent. The second sphere of executing authority comes in when as a nurse experiences issues that are not directly related to the patient are encountered but a nurse has crucial understanding or skills that can assist in handling the issue (Purtilo & Doherty, 2016) . .

In the second sphere, it offers guidelines on my role as a nursing professional and prepares me to become better that others in addressing it and improves authority position. Therefore, the three spheres give general guidelines for the association of the role of a nursing professional to the role of a citizen. There are no shard boundaries that separate the three spheres. Therefore, nursing expertise can operate in any of the spheres to some extent. In addition, the high regard status in the society promotes activity at the innermost part of authority related to making of decisions (Purtilo & Doherty, 2016) . Health professionals are seen as individuals who ought to be taken seriously and in high regard. Therefore, a nursing professional becomes an authority by virtue of status in the society.

How do you as a professional nurse demonstrate good citizenship?

A nursing professional can demonstrate good citizenship by assuming a more public responsibility in advocating for improved health care. I believe as a nurse I have a main ethical and professional duty to ensure health for all community members. Therefore, extending the area of influence from daily practice to reach the public not for purposes of power but to ensure community health is an important way of showing good citizenship.

Making efforts to ensure progress in areas professional obligation founded on a nurse’s own judgment in regard to areas where immediate impact can be created is another way of demonstrating good citizenship. In this case, the role of the nurse is not just to provide primary care but to also ensure access to care and activities to mitigate issues related to socioeconomic disparities that affect health care provision and access (Maine, 2015).

Looking at it from areas outside professional aspirations, a nurse can get involved in nursing professional societies in order to accelerate progress as part of the good citizenship. In this case, the nurse cats as a citizen but with the intuition of impacting the broader health patterns even at a national, regional and even global level ( Maine, 2015). By doing this, suffering experienced by patients can be alleviated, prevent health issues in the future and improve trust in the nursing field.

In conclusion, in demonstrating good citizenship, both accountability and responsiveness are important in dealing with situations in the area of nursing. In most cases, responsibility is seen as separate in terms of accountability and hence it is seen as just a duty in professional practice and that when a chance to act comes up a nurse is obliged to act (Maine, 2015).
