Implicit bias is among the key aspects that influence healthcare disparities in the world today. The implicit association test (IAT) is a prompt to stimulate an individual's reflection on their implicit bias. Before taking the test on age implicit bias, I believed that I was biasd against younger people and preffered the older people. While taking the assessment, I uncovered my bias against older people. After completing the test, my results showed that my automatic preference was moderately placed on younger people. This realization was slightly shocking to me but did not trigger strong emotions that can reduce the effectiveness of feedback interventions.

Taking the test made me realize that what we believe to be our implicit bias may not be true. I think that everyone should have an implicit bias test to learn what their bias is. Knowing such issues helps people learn how to mitigate them and become more effective in their workplaces. The results I got from the test have filled influenced me in that I am currently willing to work on my bias to ensure that I do away with my bias for older people. I will look into strategies that will mitigate the growth of my implicit bias.

I know that my bias impacts my behavior. It also affects the type of care and medical treatment I offer to patients, thus mitigating its growth. The process of taking the IAT proved to be interesting as the more I answered the questions, the more I began realizing my bias. Although the results were not what I expected them to be, I was glad that I took the test because I can begin to work on eradicating it. I am also now more self-aware and mindful when interacting with people to ensure I am not biased based on age.
