What style of leadership do you work best under ?
I believe I work best under a democratic kind style of leadership where each member of a workforce has the right and the opportunity to contribute to decision-making, productivity, and prosperity of the organization (Sullivan, 2017). The leader still the final decision, but contributions from the staff is highly encouraged. Employees are encouraged and given the space to explore the potentials and creativity. This kind of free space in the workplace is what would work best for a person like myself.
What leadership style best describes your present or former managers?
The style of leadership in my present workplace is a pacesetting leadership style. The organization sets high standards and goals to be achieved by each department. An upside of this style is that results are achieved quite quickly. On the downside, work can be overwhelming, and employees may lack motivation much faster.

Why is it important for nurse managers to have a clear understanding of their predominant leadership style?
Nurse Managers need to have a clear understanding of their leadership styles to know how best to serve or guide their staff. Each leadership style has its advantages and disadvantages. The nurse manager must thus be aware of their style, evaluate it, and come up with ways to make work more comfortable for the staff and also satisfactory on the part of the manager.

A transformational style of leadership sounds quite effective, given that it creates a free atmosphere in the workplace and also encourages creativity and innovativeness. However, I believe that if employees are not supervised regularly, various issues may arise. They may get lazy about their work or spend a lot of time on projects that are counter-productive for the organization. You have described the transactional leadership style well. It almost seems like the pacesetting style as employees only work according to the standards and goals set for them by the managers. You have also mentioned the fact that this kind of leadership present with issues such as low employee commitment to the organization. I also agree with your point on nurse managers’ understanding of their leadership style. It surely enables them to determine what to expect from the staff as well as what they need to provide their staff with, for them to carry out their work.
