Before joining the board of a large corporation, I would ask the following questions with the expectations as listed;
Q1. Is there a written summary of my expected roles and responsibilities? Expected Answer; Yes we have as part of the company portfolio the duties and responsibilities of all members of the board. Your specific role in the board has been outlined for you and you will receive a copy of the same.
Delegate your assignment to our experts and they will do the rest.
Q2. Is this position of board member a sort of promotion and what is the payment package? Expected Answer; once you have been selected to join the board, it means you are among the best. Therefore, consider this a promotion. The terms of service as well as the expected pay will be listed in the offer letter.
Q3. What is the history of the corporation in terms of performance? Does it have a good reputation? Expected answer; this is a large organization that has been in existence for decades. Our excellent record is one of the reasons we are still up and running. We have the best team, and our clients always approve of our service. You have no need to worry, you are joining the best.
Q4. Why do you need a new board member? Is it a replacement or has a new position been created? If it is a replacement, what happened to the previous member? If a new position, why was it created? Expected Answer; the organization is fast growing and there is need to expand the management as well. We therefore deemed it fit to create three extra positions to ease the burden of management. No one is being replaced.
Q5. What are your expectations of me once I join the board? Expected answer; we want nothing but the best. You must be able to deliver according to your outlined duties and responsibilities.
