The progressives were the people who mainly lived in the cities and towns. These are people who were of the belief that the problems being faced in the society could be eliminated by giving the education that was good to the society, having workplace condition that was good and even making the environment conducive for all the people in the nation. The progressives are also the people that were in the colleges and in the universities. These can be said to be social activists that were of the belief that the government was the one that would useful in bringing change to the society. This person belonged to the movement that was known as Progressive movement and its period was between 1890 and 1920. The main agenda of this movement was getting to the core of the problems that were related to social and economic ones (Boyer, 2011). With no time this movement grew to become a political vehicle.

As an individual, I agree with the ideas that were fronted by this movement. One of the ideas of this movement was having a good corporate behaviour. To this movement, it meant that it would be difficult to make corporate greed a thing of the past if the people observed the right behaviour while in their places of work. As a result of people being responsible and having the right kind of behaviour while in the areas of employment, things to do with corruption, embezzlement of public funds would not be there. That would, in turn, lead to a strong economy with few instances of economic problems. Noting that industrialization was a trigger to the social and corporate problems, it would be in order to have corporate responsibility. When it came to the issue of democracy, the progressives made Americans know their rights more. One agrees with this point as every citizen is entitled to having a leader on the ballot (Boyer, 2011).

One of the outspoken progressives was Ida Tarbel; this is an individual who tried his best to let American realize that there was a need to register as a voter. At the same time, this progressive made the people realize that there was the need for fearing the influence of the immigrants. To the progressive, it was thought that the immigrants would be powerful and they would take jobs that were preserved for the Americans and that mean that with time, the country would not be equal. Looking at this idea, there is no doubt that the Progressive Movement had seen ahead; this is because currently there have been issues to do with xenophobia in parts of the US. All this is because of the problem of immigrants getting to the country in plenty more so in the time of the massive green movement (Boyer, 2011).

In the American culture today, the family unit is not highly regarded. This is because of the so many divorces, single parenthood and a lot of violence in marriages. Marriages have lost meaning when compared to the number of breakups that are being reported. Perhaps this is explained by the revolution that is propelled by technology. With the smartphones and the internet all over, nothing can be hidden and at times couples are spying against the other. This is one of the aspects of the modern American culture that should be changed (Boyer, 2011). There should be a lot of counselling to those intending to get into marriage and at the same time supporting those that are already united in marriage. This will ensure union between man and woman is permanent and there will be no major issues like of violence. The religious fraternity should come forward and help the American family unit to stand and reclaim its long-lost glory; without this, future generations are in danger of facing various problems.
