From my perspective, the outcome I think for Lane to be is when he managed to reveal his true feelings for Sheri that he does not love her. Initially, Lane was unable to open up to Sheri to tell her that did not love he, while he never even said that he loved her, hence the conflict in the story. The major source of the conflict emerges where Lane fails to exercise honesty in telling Sheri concerning his true feelings, thereby leading the atmosphere between the two to be tense and unhappy. In the case of Sheri, she might be failing to say anything mostly because she anticipates Lane to become honest and tell her what he feels about her. As the story ends, however, Lane starts imagining what he would anticipate Sheri to say once he opens up and tell her the truth. Lane’s anticipation is that Sheri would say it is okay and that she wishes him all the best. In the case of Lane, he plays a lot, while he later realizes that he was not praying for the right. Rather, he realizes that he should have sought courage while he was praying in order to tell Sheri what he really feels about her. He wishes to become a good person by exercising honesty with Sheri. In this case, since the idea of telling Sheri the truth disturbs Lane for long, I think the outcome is that he opens up eventually and tells Sheri that he does not love her.

In the case of David Foster Wallace, he does not leave the plot resolution ambiguous when he reveals that Lane is able to open up and tell Sheri the truth concerning his real feelings for her. This idea leads the audience to realize that Lane’s epiphany comes to fruition eventually. Whereas Lane realizes that he does not exercise seriousness in his faith since, while he anticipates being good to people, seeks courage for addressing this shortcoming by telling Sheri that he does not love her. Being good, loving, and kind to friends, family is something that the Christian church teaches, although it is what individuals wish to be irrespective of religion. Thus, once Lane finds the courage of revealing his true feelings to Sheri, his epiphany becomes apparent.
