Marriage is a legal union linking two people as partners that is a husband and a wife; the union is legally recognized (Arland, 2007). In every nation, there are laws and regulations’ governing marriage and United States is not an exception; in America, marriage laws have changed recently compared to the past as before marriage of the same sex was not allowed but now people are free to marry from the same sex. Sex among people of different races was forbidden but today interracial marriage is allowed, and one can marry from any race. Marriage is terminatable by either death of a spouse, divorce or annulment. Marriage rates keep on decreasing in America, and only a few people are getting married; the reduction in rates of marriage is due to some reasons such as, the widened range of income and inequality in U.S, increased educated women who are employed and satisfied by their salaries making them choosier to whom they marry.
Only a few Americans are getting married today when compared to the past where 71 percent was the rate of marriage, but today only 51 percent of the Americans are tying the knot. Wealth inequality is one of the reasons why only a few U.S citizens are getting married; some people claim that their income is very low to marry and raise up a family thus they end up working and looking for well-paying jobs so that they can be financially stable and marry. Marrying when one is not stable is disadvantageous because raising children is something that needs one to be financial stable thus raising children without a proper income subject’s one to poverty, and the children may end up not getting their basic needs due to the income state of their parents.

Many women are educated and have a job which gives them a good source of income which is stable; women thought that they only get married because they dependent on men for care and provision. Women nowadays have become independent as they can work and earn money and this has made them see marriage as important when one cannot sustain themselves; meaning if you can maintain yourself and even raise children as a single mother then what the need to get married. Women have also become choosy as to whom they should marry. Well-educated women prefer to marry an educated man making those less educated lose focus and morale to marry them, and this has facilitated to a lot of why only a few number of Americans are tying the knot.
Some Americans believe that marriage is old fashioned and outdated thus it is no longer necessary; people used to marry because of love and the need to have children. Many Americans believe that they can be loved and cherished even when they are not married, people can legally have children without being in a marriage and this has led to decrease in a number of people getting married in the United States. A large of people nowadays prefers to live together as couples informally, and they do not want to legalize their marriage leading to decrease in marriage rates (Tiziana, 2008). Several Americans fear divorce, getting into a serious relationship and marrying seems somewhat risk for the Americans as they fear that their marriage may end up not working leading to a divorce something most people do not like. Thus people prefer to be single and not married because marrying and later divorcing is same as staying single and avoiding the heartbreaks.
Marriage although is a sweet thing as two people/partners live together as one, but in the recent years the rate of marriage in America keeps on deteriorating, and many people prefer being single rather than in wedlock. Some reasons Americans despise marriage is because the rate of income is low thus making people fear the responsibilities of marrying and raising children. Many citizens in U.S prefer cohabitation than matrimony, and they end up living together as couples, but they never formalize their marriage. Educated women feel stable have become choosy when it comes to whom to marry; women also see no need of getting married since they can take care of themselves and can raise children on their own. People can have kids and be loved without being in marriage thus they see no need to be in wedlock; some people term marriage as old-fashioned and traditionally outdated thus they end up not marrying this has led to only a few Americans getting married.
