Isaac Newton, born on January 4, 1643, in England’s Woolsthorpe, Lincolnshire was among the world’s greatest inventors, and he also discovered a certain phenomenon that has helped in other inventions over the years. Among Newton’s inventions is Calculus, which he co-invented together with Gottfried Leibniz. Newton was responsible for his contribution to math in the form of the invention of Calculus, which developed form the generalized binomial theorem. Within the same field or subject of mathematics, Newton is also famous for his contribution in analytical geometry. Within the field of mathematics, Newton discovered differentiation and integration, which are lines tangent to curves and the area underneath a curve respectively, announcing that the two are inverse of each other. Newton also discovered and established methods of resolving the problems of curvature through the employment of a method of Fluxions (Christianson, 1996). The term fluxion was applicable and thus was used because Newton thought of the flow of a quantity from one value to another. Another contribution or achievement of Newton was that he was responsible for the invention/creation of the theories of optics, all which he did at the age of 28. The ideas on optics and gravitation were something he learnt or got from Isaac Barrow (Christianson, 1996).
Another great accomplishment by Newton is that he created the theory of gravity, which in it he developed three laws of motion by unifying the laws of planetary motion by Johannes Kepler’s with the theory of falling bodies by Galileo Galilei’s, the Italian Philosopher. Newton’s first law of motion states that “ objects continue to move in a state of constant velocity, which can be zero unless acted upon by an external force (Newton, 1999) .” The second law states that “ the rate of change of momentum of a body is proportional to the resultant force acting on it, and will be in the same direction (Newton, 1999) .” The third law states that “ all forces act in pairs that are equal in magnitude and opposite in direction (Newton, 1999) .” From the three laws of motion created through the theory of gravity, Newton has contributed to some of the inventions that are present today such as the hot air balloon, thus making him a tireless inventor and his discoveries timeless as well.
