Communication is considered to be a significant characteristic of medical training. When health care providers have poor communication amongst themselves, then the rate of complaints that can be raised against the National Health Service (NHS) would increase within a short duration. As a result, the health of patients would also be at stake. Situation background assessment recommendation (SBAR) procedure is a method the offers a communication channel between the patients and their care providers. Its usage has demonstrated effective collaboration between patients and healthcare providers, improved the outcomes from patients and elevated their satisfaction with care.  This paper, therefore, aims at providing a comprehensive explanation of how SBAR has become effective in communicating between health care professionals.

In most medical institutions, medical providers tend to work shifts offering their services therefore, for a good medical handover to take place, communication has to be made effectively. This also helps provide the health care providers with less stressful working environments more so after handover from previous sessions. The patient on the other hand also receives sufficient continuity of care thus reducing repetition of medication that might, in the end, result in morbidity and mortality. Health care providers should, therefore, ensure that no mistake is made in the communication channel in the event of a handover ( Thomas, Bertram, & Johnson, 2015 ). consequently, it can be concluded that the 3dst of an effective structure of communication as a national patient safety goal helps reach maximum patient care.

The way patients communicate to health care providers might vary based on different instances such as gender, cultural background, level of education, communication techniques displayed by both parties and also stress among other environmental factors. Therefore, the employment of SBAR helps reduce this failure through the development of systematic channels to be followed by both parties thus improving the quality of services offered to the patients.
