The fact that judges are appointed for a lifetime is a topic that has struck endless debates for many years now. However, the constitution-makers believe that it is the right thing to do to protect the interests of the country and the judges as well. One positive reason why federal judges are appointed for a lifetime is that the lifetime contract protects them from being exploited or influenced by other organs of the government or even political parties. This means that as long as they are in the office, they cannot work for any other agency or party since the contract does not allow them to vote once they are appointed to office. Therefore, the judges are free to listen to anyone's opinions as long as their decisions and views are based on the law and the constitution. On the contrary, there is a negative aspect of electing judges for a lifetime because there is no room for fresh minds with new ideas and views. Having fresh minds in the office from time to time will encourage other ways of interpreting the law and the constitution. Thus, having them for a lifetime will reduce the chances of being modern and encourage decisions and policies no longer relevant in the current world. Personally, the reason why constitution framers elect judges for life terms is that it allowed them to vote based on how they saw a judge fit in the position with respect to how much they knew the law and their interpretation of the constitution. This will help them focus on the law rather than votes and winning, which will help avoid corruption and bribery in the judicial system. The court system is an important part of any country, and therefore keeping it clean as possible will ensure justice and the country's progress.
