Lack of fair compensation is one of the challenges facing nursing practice. The salaries the nurses receive is hidden from the public to avoid exposing them to world ridicule. Unfair compensation has led to most nurses looking for better opportunities in the developed world ( Shields & Watson, 2008). Despite their work being emotionally and physically draining, most nurses feel like they are underpaid. Their salaries do not in any way reflect the workload they experience at the medical centers.

Revealing the salary of nurses will help the get the respect they deserve and get support to push for better pay. Nurses have undergone training, just like the other professionals in the medical field. Nurses have degrees as well. They should enjoy the same benefits in terms of pay ( McHugh & Ma, 2014) . Nurses walk with their patients on the way to recovery. They ensure that they take the right dose as prescribed by the doctor, and they always have the records of the patients that doctors need for them to provide medication. During operations, it is the nurses who stand by the doctors to offer a helping hand. Considering the excessive work, it is only right that they get a deserving pay ( Shields & Watson, 2008) . Besides, it can be a good source of motivation for them to offer the best service due to the acknowledgment they receive from their employers in terms of pay.

Lack of fair compensation is caused by several reasons. Some medical facilities are understaffed. Due to the rising numbers of patients, hospital management is forced to hire a contract basis but will not be able to pay much since the government offers little or no funding at all. Different levels of experience cause the variables in terms of paying ( McHugh & Ma, 2014) . A fresh graduate cannot be paid the same as one who has been in the industry for quite some time. Besides, most medical facilities take advantage of the graduates because they require a job, and will take any offer as long as they get employed.

As much the doctor is essential when it comes to taking care of a patient's condition, nurses play a vital role in the same. When they are frustrated at work because of low wages, patients are likely to feel the frustrations due to the bad service they will get. A happy nurse means a satisfied patient, thus a speedy recovery.
