In comparing the concept of wisdom in nursing informatics to the concept of professional nursing judgment, it is necessary to gain an understanding on the details of each concept. From the concept of wisdom, the key factor is the application of knowledge and experiences in making appropriate decisions. Phaneuf, 2008 postulates that the fundamental constituents of wisdom are knowledge, intelligence and creativity, as well as having the ability to make use of these constituents to influence appropriate decisions. On the other hand, the concept of professional nursing judgment deals with possessing information to enable the nurse in explaining, describing, prescribing and predicting a nursing-related event. Essentially, professional nursing judgment involves a consistent and systematic manner of approaching the practice of nursing care to guide the process of decision making (Phaneuf, 2008). A good example of comparing the concept of wisdom in nursing informatics to the concept of professional nursing judgment is where a nurse is encountering a patient with a given condition. The concept of professional nursing judgment provides the various option that can be used to manage the given condition while the concept of wisdom provides the guidance on the choice of the most appropriate option for managing the condition. Therefore, the actions in nursing have their basis on both the concept of wisdom in nursing informatics as well as the concept of professional nursing judgment.

Looking into the DIKW framework, the initials represent Data, Information, Knowledge and Wisdom in nursing informatics. The DIKW framework is among the fundamental conceptual frameworks largely applied in nursing informatics ( Matney et al., 2011) . In my practice, I use the DIKW framework in using technology to assist patients online. The process begins with the data obtained from the patient followed by the use of health information available to enable the patient to be an active participant in the process. The knowledge shared online enables a clear understanding of the various options in handling the condition. Eventually, through the nursing wisdom, I manage to advise the patient on the most appropriate course of action to remedy the condition.
