Women’s reproductive rights have had a history of struggles for a considerably long time. In most societies and cultures women have not had freedom in determining the suitable methods of birth control that they should adopt ( McBride & Parry, 2016) . As such men have all along dictated timings of pregnancies as well as denying women the right to reproductive decisions. Continuous studies have shown that over the years women’s reproductive rights have been a subject of religious, moral, and ethical considerations further alienating women in making important reproductive choices ( Paludi & Ellens, 2016) . In recent years, the issue of reproductive rights such as abortion when necessary has elicited strong political attention rising emotions, especially during electioneering periods.

The lectures on women’s reproductive rights have had a significant impact on my view of the subject. First the fact that women are at the centre of reproduction and bear much of the burden in terms of carrying pregnancies as well as nursing newborns have made me realize that they should have a say in reproductive rights. However, important decisions such as the timing of pregnancies and birth control methods adopted should be a joint effort between men and women.

Abortion is viewed negatively especially when religion, ethics, and morality enters the scene ( Paludi & Ellens, 2016) . When these factors are considered, it can be argued that abortion is a process that ought to be condemned. However, when medical risks are involved abortion should be allowed with an aim of preserving the life of the mother. Additionally, in cases where the unborn child has major health issues such as dysfunction or absence of major organs abortion can be allowed. Despite my support for allowing support during medical risks, I feel stringent rules should be put in place with the reviewing of present laws to put more restrictions on abortion.
