Fourteen points was a set of principles developed by Woodrow Wilson who was the 28th President of United States. The principles were read before the Congress and were aimed at ensuring international peace, justice, and equality. The primary objective connected to the development of these fourteen points were aimed at ending the First World War. The Fourteen Point incorporated issues concerned with freedom of navigation, reduction of weapon numbers by all countries, and removal of economic barriers among others that aimed at bringing international peace and safe democracy. Wilson believed in peace and negotiation before engagement in a physical fight, a belief that pushed him to develop the principles not only to end the First World War peacefully but also to ensure it will never take place again.
According to my evaluation of the Fourteen Points developed by Woodrow, I think it was a significant step that this gentleman took to make the decision of presenting these principles considering the world was buried in the flames of the World War. The points reflected the love of peace, equality, and freedom which are qualities that were needed for the world to exist in harmony. The points brought out the true nature of democracy and equality, and it was a great thing that the ideas were not directed on a single nation. Nevertheless, I think Wilson went far more beyond his authority to develop proposals that were even to determine the activities of other nations, something that would face fierce opposition. I think the principles touched on delicate national matters that no country would allow considering, more so as this was the period of the greatest war the world ever had.

Considering his proposal in his first and fourth points, Wilson proposed no more secret agreement and countries to reduce weapon numbers that they were using respectively. Considering that this was the time of the war and countries wanted to protect their people and properties from any external attack, these two points were unrealistic, and nothing could be implemented out of them. I do not think that any country would allow conduction of deals and agreements that are open to anyone such that the government has no secrets. If this strategy can be applied to bring about peace, countries’ weaknesses can be easily exposed, and giant nations might take advantage of smaller countries’ weaknesses. Moreover, considering this was the time of the war, conflict, and disagreements, it was not appropriate to propose for countries to reduce their weapon.
Nevertheless, most of the points Wilson developed could efficiently work and were phenomenal. For example, proposing the reduction of trade barriers between countries was very sensible as it meant increased wealth and integration of people from different countries, a step which would have resulted to peaceful coexistence among different people. Wilson also talked of liberation and freeing some of the nations which were under other nation’s control. This reflected global freedom and equality and the step in a big way would determine the direction of the world regarding peace and democracy. For example, the proposal to liberate Russia from the hands of German army reflected the passion and the determination to help other nations for the world to have peace. Although the set of principles contained points that weren’t applicable, I think the points covered all the critical areas.
