In 1948, various nations convened and formulated a blueprint that would see the establishment of the World Health Organization (WHO). The formation was also a strategy by the United Nations to diversify its operations globally. The WHO is known to deal with health globally, and its main programs and policy have a significant effect on the global public health status. According to the WHO's constitution, its role includes "the directing and coordinating authority on international health work," also, it pays significant attention to "the attainment by all people of the highest possible standards of health" (Organization).

The UN recognized the necessity to a global body that specializes in health concerns, which can assist countries across the globe to reinforce their health services. Also, the WHO has the role of maintaining and developing technical and administrative functions like statistical and epidemiological services. Further, the body pays significant effort in the fight against diseases. In effect, policymakers ensure that they come up with strategies and policies that help enhance working conditions, sanitation, housing, and nutrition.
