The World's Toilet Crisis is a growing epidemic. Before studying the course material, I was not aware that the toilet crisis was a significant issue that affected millions of people across the world. Although the problem is part of the global health crisis, it is astonishing to learn the number of people that are at risk of contracting health complications due to poor sanitation caused by the toilet crisis. I thought that the lack of proper toilet services is a myth and not a health crisis that affected millions of people in developing nations. While going through the module materials, the idea that struck me is the fact that the toilet crisis is one of the leading killers in the world. Although not many people are highlighting it is a major global health issue, the toilet crisis is affecting the health of millions of people in developing countries.
The rapid population growth in developing countries coupled with poor development and environmental policies have contributed to the toilet menace. It is shocking to learn that people lack proper sanitation, yet they can afford electronic gadgets such as cell phones. For instance, in India, the majority of people do not have access to a toilet; thus, they contribute to the poor environmental standards as they are forced to partake in open defecation. As a result, thousands of children in countries such as India that are experiencing the toilet crisis die due to diarrheal illnesses. The video titled The World's Toilet Crisis by Vanguard, which was shot in India, reveals how the lack of proper sanitation has altered the environmental quality. In India, the water quality has been compromised since the sewerage plants go untreated and pollute the rest of the water supply.

The video published by Goat and Soda demonstrates how public urination and defection has become a national issue in India. The video shot in India reflects the extent of the toilet crisis in the country and why it has become a widespread problem. Moreover, from the video, it is evident that the country is attempting to create awareness on the issue and stop the locals from normalizing open urination and defection. The two videos inform the public about the issue of the toilet crisis in developing countries by concentrating on India as an example. From the videos, it is evident that the toilet crisis has become a health and environmental problem that affects the entire population. The videos expound my understanding of the world toilet crisis, what it means, and how it affects people in developing countries. When evaluating the content in the videos, one can understand that the toilet crisis is beyond open urination and defecation. The toilet crisis has contributed to the growing issue of poor sanitation and an increased rate of death as a result of airborne diseases such as diarrhea.
The world toilet crisis matters since it is developing into an environmental and health issue that is affecting millions of people in developing countries. National and international institutions need to assess the underlying problems that are related to the toilet crisis and address them. For instance, in the case of India, the growing population is contributing to the toilet crisis as more people lack access to proper toilets; hence, reinforcing the issue of poor sanitation. The national government should introduce policies that address the issue as part of a health crisis and educate the masses about the dangers of open urination and defection.
