Writing is an important skill that learners need to gain from an early age. It is particularly important for learners to be able to write pieces in which they take a stand on a given issue and provide arguments to support their position. A number of strategies that allow learners to create persuasive essays are available. The POW + TREE and the DARE and STOP are among these strategies. When she adopts these strategies, Kaynia will be able to vastly improve her writing.

As noted above, the POW + TREE, DARE and STOP are some of the main writing strategies. POW is an acronym for pick, organize and write (Shora & Hott, 2016). The first step of the strategy is picking an issue that one wishes to examine. In the second step, one organizes their ideas using TREE (topic sentence, reasons, examples and ending). The third step involves writing. Here, the individual pens down their ideas and thoughts. DARE is also an acronym for a writing process that begins with developing a position. This step is followed with the addition of ideas that support one’s position (“STOP and DARE”, n.d). The third step involves reporting any counterarguments. One is also required to deconstruct these counterarguments. In the fourth and last step of the DARE strategy, one should end with a convincing conclusion which summarizes and captures the main issues addressed. STOP stands for suspending judgment, taking a position, organizing ideas and planning (“STOP and DARE”, n.d). This strategy challenges individuals to refrain from forming judgments without considering all the information. It is after one has examined all details that they may proceed to adopt a position, organize their ideas and plan how they will write.

The main goal that Kaynia wishes to achieve is developing the ability to write a persuasive essay in which she adopts a position and provides arguments to support the position. The strategies above can help her achieve this goal. Using the POW+TREE strategy, Kaynia will be able to zero in on a particular topic. After she has done this, she will then organize her ideas and proceed to write. Essentially, this strategy ensures that she is adequately prepared before she writes. The DARE and STOP strategies will deliver a similar benefit. Using the DARE strategy, Kaynia will be able to develop a position, provide supporting arguments, respond to any counterarguments and conclude on a strong note. The STOP strategy will allow her to exercise caution and to consider all perspectives before adopting a position. Thanks to this strategy, she will also be able to gather her thoughts then proceed to write.

The POW + TREE graphic organizer is a tool that Kaynia can use to monitor how she uses this strategy. Essentially, this organizer provides learners with a way to properly bring their plan and ideas together. For example, the organizer has room where students can outline the topic that they will discuss and the evidence that will present. Using this tool, Kaynia can expect that she will be able to ensure that she has address all key areas of argumentative essay.

Apart from the strategies discussed above, there are other strategies that Kaynia can use. The RACES and RAFTs are two other strategies that Kaynia can rely on. The RACES strategy is a process where the first step involves restating the issue that one needs to address (“R.A.C.E.S”, n.d). The second step is answering this issue. The third and fourth steps involve citing evidence and providing explanations respectively. In the fifth step, one needs to sum up all that they have covered. On the other hand, the RAFTs strategy challenges the writer to first examine what her role is (“The RAFTs Technique”, n.d). When she has done this, the writer may then proceed to examine the audience. The next step is determining the format to adopt. In the last step, one selects the topic to discuss and chooses a strong verb that will guide the writing process (“The RAFTs Technique”, n.d). Kaynia can use any one of the strategies discussed above as each promises to improve her writing.
