During the war period, women were expected to stay at home and take care of their kids and other day to day household chores such as cooking and laundry work. However, there were certain class of women who believed in equality for all, and sort for different work opportunities. Women empowerment begun when the Second World War was taking place, and since the women were forced to fend for themselves, they could easily take up new jobs, and they could be compensated as their male counterparts as a symbol of equality and patriotism to maintain the war economy booming. When were called to the battlefield, and their role as soldiers was outshone by their previous role as breadwinners. Families and in particular women were forced to cope up with the new reality on the ground, leaving women as the new bread winners. Women did not only participate as workers in the battlefield, but they were also being actively employed in steel and the automobile industry in large numbers.

These family situation readjustments, challenged the previous gender role, hence inculcating a long-term changes to the public and private life. The war emergency brought up an economic restructuring effort along the gender-neutral lines, bringing to a halt sex segregation at the workplace.
