This malpractice case involves a patient by the name Yolanda Pinnelas, who is 21 years of age. She was admitted to Caring Memorial Hospital for chemotherapy after being diagnosed with anal cancer. As a result of medical negligence, Mytomycin caused a necrosis on her hand where she lost functions of her fingers. The plaintiff in the case is Yolanda Pinnelas while Caring Memorial Hospital is the defendant. The respondent parties representing the hospital include; Jeffery Chambers RN-staff nurse, Patricia Peters-pharmacy, William brandy-M.D –plastic surgeon, Mary Jones-RN-IV insertion, Betty DePalma-nursing supervisor, Susan Post- risk manager and Diana Smith-RN.

Several staff members that handled Yolanda were at fault and in one way or another, they contributed to her necrosis (Allison & Wolfson, 2017). The most liability falls under Jeffery, RN because he is the primary nurse in this scenario. His defense argues that, though he is accused of fatigue from working in two shifts, he had 6 hours of sleep and the time was enough to rest. Carol is accused of ignoring the IV pump, but her defense argues that her scope restricts her from chemotherapy administration (Furrow, Greaney, Johnson, Jost & Schwartz, 2014). Betty DePalma who is the nursing supervisor contends that there was no issue reported to her and that she would have acted if there was a report on the alarming machine.

The plaintiff asked to be served with SAFE-INFUSE-pump, Brand X infusion pump, and its serial number. An informed consent document will also be needed by the plaintiff. The documents are to be used to evaluate whether the respondents violated the stated directions and writings. They will be used as a source of evidence against the respondents. The patient was supposed to sign an informed consent after understanding all the procedure of the chemotherapy (Safran et al., 2018). However, there was no other informed consent for the surgery performed by William brandy.
