Testing is part of life, and God gives tests too. Although God can test us in various ways, some of the various tests common in our daily lives include (i) fiery tests- intense struggles, grief or lust. (ii) Infirmities such as diseases and physical limitations (iii) Reproaches – being ridiculed or rejected on account of God (iv) Persecutions- facing harassment due to religious convictions. (v) Necessities- wear and care in our daily responsibilities. (vi) Distresses such as disappointments (Vii) Tribulations- unusual challenges and (vii) temptations which lead us to commit sins. God tests us to see our faith in Him. God tested Israelites in the wilderness “to know what was in your heart” (Deuteronomy 8:2). Similarly, the hard times in our lives are meant to test our faith in God.
I felt tested when I lost my close friend through cancer. He had been bedridden since 2012 when he was first diagnosed with cancer. Nothing can be stressing like losing the closest person, and the loss of my friend was a shock that hit me hard. I handled the test by giving thanks to God and accepting that the loss was something I couldn't change. Admitting that the death was beyond my control helped me to move on.

During this hard time, I gave thanks to God for the gift of my friend with whom we interacted with until his death. I believe my approach was effective because accepting that the happening is beyond one’s control is one of the best ways to deal with a stressor. Thanking God is also an effective way to handle the test because all things happen through His will. In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you" (I Thessalonians 5:18). Thus, in spite of facing difficulties, one should give thanks as a way to endure through God’s grace.
