Staggenborg (2015) identifies five significant resources as essential to the effectiveness of social movements. The resource mobilization theory further pinpoints that the civil rights movement succeeded in effective mobilization of resources. Moral resources are significant in the civil rights movements in ensuring the people are informed of their rights and what the state law requires. (Staggenborg, 2015) Further argues that civil rights movements survived and were sustained for a long time by human resources like labor in fronting rallies and championing for mass enlightenment. Martin Luther King is a crucial proponent of labor as a human resource in the civil rights movement. Without social, organizational resources, the success of a civil rights movement becomes limited. Human civil rights Such resources include forming networks of communication to inform masses of what the movement is up to. It also includes infrastructure organization to allow smooth rallies. The civil rights movement ‘goals were to end ‘Jim Crow Laws’ which were majorly tied to unequal rights. Civil activists sought to set up equal rights to all the people regardless of their race. The other laws that were linked to segregation, discrimination and no right to votes that had been written in the constitution needed the change. This characterized the goal of activism.

The advances in technology have made it easier for civil rights movements to thrive. Today by making a simple phone call, a tweet on social media or raising an important concern of Facebook gives such information quick attention. Civil rights movements are highly looked upon by governments and other parties as they raised fundamental issues. When activists post some information on social media, it will attract attention and spark concern. Similarly, renowned civil rights activists are highly followed on their social media accounts for updates. A phone can also be used to call members for meetings, rallies, and assemblies.

The civil rights movement in America as an example changed the lives of many people. Before the formation of civil rights movements, there was segregation and racism against African Americans. Through the rallies and demands fronted by the civil rights movement, segregation has been considered as unconstitutional in the American constitution. African Americans are equally treated and recognized as an American race. The society benefits from the civil rights movement in championing for equal rights and the scrapping of unconstitutional laws.

Reading through the activities of civil rights activists like Martin Luther King, the actions and impact that civil rights movements put, I am convinced that I am enjoying the current constitution by the efforts set by the civil rights movements

Overall, the Civil rights movement as a social movement had roots in America and spread to other continents due to the impact they had on the Americans. It is important that the civil rights movement is supported by providing the significant resources that they use to ensure its continuity and survival.
