Throughout the centuries and the history of humanity, the search for God has led down to many paths, and the result has been the diversity in religious expression that is found all over the world. The search for God has led to Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, Buddhism, Judaism and Zoroastrianism among other religions. Even though the language and expression of these religions are different, their prophets spoke and preached about the reverence for honesty, dignity, truth, the right to live, freedom and love. All religions share a common belief, but when it comes to rituals, they are different, because different religions developed in different times, places and cultural contexts.

Hinduism, Islam and Buddhism all acknowledge the failings of an individual and the need or desire to become better. Human beings have the desire to feel fulfilled, at peace and having inner strength which comes from believing in God and moving to practices such as prayer, fasting, religious sacrifices and rituals as well as pilgrimages. Hinduism, Buddhism and Islam all acknowledge the need to connect with God who created us in order to attorn for our sins as they affect our relationship with God. In these religious, Muhammad admitted that he required forgiveness, Buddha never laid any claim that he was sinless and in Hinduism, the belief that their actions in a previous life determined their current position in this world.

The belief in a supreme or supernatural being is what I find most valuable in the three religions. Hinduism, Islam and Buddhism acknowledge that we have failed as humans, and there is a need for us to be better. I am convinced that this is what led to the creation of world religions. Islam and Hinduism believe that God exists but Buddhists are of the notion that God is a universal spirit. In these three religions, their believers believe that a higher power or God protects them at all times and rewards them when His commandments are followed. In the case of suffering, these faiths believe in the judgement and punishment of the deities in which they believe.

I find these concepts and practices valuable because human existence is highly dependent on religious beliefs for life to have a meaning and a purpose. Having faith in a specific religion is deeply-rooted on the promise of good things to come both at heart and spirit. Human beings do not only lose faith when things do not go as planned but also in any probable outcome in their lives. When life becomes hard, people turn to religion for solace, with the hope that things will get better.

My views on the social and political impacts of these three faiths and their leaders in that they have helped me discover and develop a purpose for my life. When life and its challenges take a toll on us, we begin to question our very own existence. Even though we are faced with difficult situations, it is the faith in our specific religion that helps guide us in the right direction, while allowing us to discover our true purpose in life. Religion teaches us that life gets harder before it gets better, and when a part of us is broken, we have to dig in deep inside and find the strength that we need to make it through. This strength comes from our faith or whatever it is that we believe in; this makes it easier to go through life’s trials and tribulations with ease while helping guide us towards our purpose. Faith is responsible for creating the pathway to finding solutions to life’s challenges.
