A professional psychologist belongs to the category of scientific psychology and he/she helps people or organizations on how to prevent and remediate issues related to the behaviours of humans. He/she offers therapy, which involved using psychotherapy, which is problem solving with the aim of tackling change and problems. The difference between a professional psychologist and a counselling professional is that, while a professional psychologist works on people who have severe mental illnesses through psychotherapy performance, the general therapy part is always given to the professional counsellor. Another difference is that a professional psychologist is allowed to conduct tests on patients including neurological function tests. On the other hand, a counselling professional is limited to the number of tests he/she can administer to a client (Slade, 2009).

A licensed social worker gives counselling to people in need. A licensed social worker also works as an advocate for people who are disadvantaged in life. He/she also helps the disadvantaged people to get whatever resources they need to make their life better and ease their burden or struggle. One of the differences between a licensed social worker and a counselling profession is education. A licensed social worker requires a Master of Social Work while a counselling profession requires a Masters degree in Counselling (Slade, 2009). Another difference is that for an individual to be a professional counsellor, they require advanced theories and techniques of counselling whereas a licensed social worker is more involved with the allocation of resources that would help their clients to improve their welfare. In addition, while a social worker looks to improve the life of the patient and whole society, the counselling profession is only concerned with the patient.
