"Please Look After Mom" is a book written by a South Korean novelist known as Kyung-Sook Shin. The book focuses its attention on the importance of family and therefore it talks about a selfish family of Park So-nyo. Park So-nyo is a woman who got lost in the crowds a trains station in Seoul and never appeared against after a very long period of time. Therefore her two sons, two daughters, and husbands regret all the bad that they had done to her.
After the disappearance of the person called mom, the family members begin how well they knew the person called mom. The eldest son, who was also moms best remembers how mom used to visit her in the city and when she came she would come with eggplant and pumpkins and give it all to the children without leaving a small share for herself as she said that she was not hungry. The eldest daughter recalls how she was very busy in town that she hardly had time for mom. She regrets being too busy to create time for her mother. The husband also has regrets he says that he was always ahead of his wife, who is now lost. As the memories of the lost mother come up, we see a woman who is struggling against poverty to make sure that all her children are well fed (Shin, 2008). She is also struggling against infidelity to keep the traditions. They all miss her and now they see how they did not appreciate her work to keep the children and the family happy. This story emphasizes the importance of positive family relations. This story compares the traditional times when a family was important to issue and people would create time out of their busy schedules to be with the family members, unlike these days where the times that are meant for a family are used for traveling.

"To live" is a novel by a Chinese novelist, Yu Hua, the novel is all about the son of a rich landowner. The main character who is also known as Fugui a man who spent the whole of the family fortune in gambling. After spending the whole of the family fortune in gambling he was forced to join the national army and left his family members with nothing to live on. After two years he came back home and found that his mother had died from a stroke. He was met with other problems like passing on of his son who died while donating blood due to some medical negligence, his daughter who was almost becoming mute due to a hearing problem that resulted from a fever died after getting married and she died while giving birth (Yu Hua, 1993). His son-in-law from an accident during construction and finally his grandson dies by being chocked by beans while he was eating. Fugui faces all these problems but he still has the strength to move on with life. From the novel, we can learn that family is very important for one personal development and happiness. It hurts when we see the people that we love suffer and even die and there is nothing we can do to help them. Fugui decided to move on with life even though he lost everybody in his family. We can also learn a very important lesson from Fugui that we should always move on with life no matter what happens as Fugui had all the reasons to commit suicide but he decided to live.
