Learning Goals and Objectives
For the upcoming week, the primary learning goals and objectives involve:
Demonstrating requisite knowledge and skills for effective patient care in elderly populations.
Establishing meaningful relationships with elderly patients and their families within the care setting.
Conduct clinical assessments and developing management skills about older patient care.
Deepening my understanding of care for the elderly population through practical site visits and research.
Delegate your assignment to our experts and they will do the rest.
Growing leadership skills and nurturing interprofessional relations with team members in different settings.
Upcoming week’s detailed schedule
The schedule will be as follows:
Observe the elderly care environment and assess patient needs
Assess the general health of patients and their response towards different treatment methods
Work with other members of the team to facilitate better care
Administer prescribed medication
Interact with patients and their families for better relations
Placement items/issues
While talking to some of the elderly patients at the care center, there is a grave issue that I felt I could not raise in class because of the weight it carries. A majority had mental issues, sight and hearing loss, and soiling themselves, among other health complications. Some felt like they were a burden to others and as such, believed they had lived their lives to the fullest. Two patients expressed their views, noting that they should be left alone to die because there was no purpose of staying alive as a liability to others. I was emotional about the issue and tried to talk to give them hope about life but could not talk to anyone about it.
Objective and relation to an article
My objective this week has been focused on developing and deepening my knowledge and understanding of patient care among elderly populations. My goal has been to maintain the appropriate attitude and demonstrate proficient management of such patients using patient-centered clinical methods. I got to understand that coordination of patient care is critical towards the success of the treatment method, and as such, consultation and collaboration with other caregivers and health professionals are also essential. In the article, Rowe, Fulmer & Fried, 2016) are focused on the deficiencies that exist in elderly care for their increasing population and the interventions that can be adopted to improve the situation. They note that effective management should involve engaging adults and their family caregivers collaboratively so that one can identify the needs and address the set goals for individualizing better quality care plans. The article and the objective for this week are therefore aligned in terms of what needs to be done as far as older patient care is concerned.
