Besides curative care, preventive service is vital in ensuring a healthy society. It curbs the spread of diseases, illnesses, and other related complications. Screening is one of the ways through which preventive service can be executed in a population. Common conditions that can be screened include diabetes, depression, gonorrhea, lung cancer, and cervical cancer. Particularly, cervical cancer remains a menace in the world today. Thus, extensive screening processes are on demand to control it. In Imperial County in State of California, I will contact cervical cancer screening as an ideal way of controlling the condition. The paper examines the theory behind cervical cancer screening in California State, screening purposes, population, screening activity, outcome goals, location, cost, and an overall summary of the process.

Theory or Conceptual Model

The theory of care-seeking behavior can be applied to support this noble initiative. It can enhance the participation of women and other members of the society in the screening exercise. Social-demographic factors, habits, norms, beliefs, and clinical factors are primary constructs in this case (Latunji & Akinyemi, 2018). According to their theory, care-seeking behavior is influenced by demographic and clinical factors through psychosocial constructs such which include habits, norms, and beliefs (Latunji & Akinyemi, 2018). For instance, the presence of medical facilities, equipment, and medical providers can influence people to deviate from their norms, beliefs, and habits and engage in the screening exercise that is vital to their health. This explains why the screening exercise has to be well planned, announced, and made accessible by all women within Imperial County.

The screening activity will involve women between the age of 21 and 29 years. This will be done with the Pap test method alone (USPSTF, 2019). To start with, I will ask the each participating women to undress from the waist down and lie on the examination table. Kneels will be bent and heels placed on stirrups. After that, I will carefully insert a speculum to hold vaginal walls apart. This will give me a good view of the cervix. At this point, I will use a spatula and soft brush to collect samples for examination. I will store the sample in a special liquid. The bottle or container will be labeled with the name of the women being testing and moved for examination under a microscope. The characteristics of the cells will be examined keenly. A negative result will mean that cells have been observed and determined to be normal. Abnormal cells will mean that one is positive; hence, treatment is necessary. For those that are negative, I will teach them the essence of coming after every three years to ensure that treatment is initiated early if abnormal cells are detected. I will advise those that test positive to adhere to treatment to prevent the development of cervical cancer.
