Major Interpretive Question 1:
To be called by grace
To be called by grace refers to the privilege extended to one where he does not deserve it.
Argument
Paul was a believer and staunch persecutor of the church above every other Jew. He believed that this was the true religion as passed down from the forefathers and taught by the teachers of the law. Little did he know that the law and the teachings of the prophets pointed to Christ. Through grace, he received a revelation about the Gospel being centered in Christ. No human instrumentality was used, but God himself taught him the true gospel. Therefore, it is observable that Paul was a vile person, offending against the gospel and therefore did not deserve the privilege to be united with the gospel work but God overlooks this fact and makes him a principle worker in advancing the gospel to the gentiles.
Major Interpretive Question 2:
Why God sent Paul to the Gentiles and not any other place
Paul was to be an example both to the Jews and the gentiles of the saving grace of God; the power in the gospel that could change one from being its enemy to its propagator.

Argument
The apostles had been appointed to the ministry on behalf of the Jews. Therefore, God needed an instrument to work on behalf of the Gentiles. The scripture speaks of the apostles being established in Jerusalem. Secondly, Paul's conversion did a wonderful work in him by breaking the prejudice that was in his heart. He was lead to see his love for the traditions as vain and lacking in the substance of true religion. Therefore, he was better placed than the disciples in working on behalf of gentiles who had similar struggles with their cultures and traditions.
Interpretation of the Passage:
From this passage, grace can be understood to be the work of God in calling one from darkness to marvelous light and appointing such person to unite with Him in the saving of others. Paul, though boasting of knowing the truth, was in darkness as to the nature of the gospel and its power. God revealed His will and plan to save man by appointing Paul to be a coworker with Him in the plan of salvation.
