Dr. Arliss Loveless is a character in the 1999 movie known as ‘’Wild Wild West’’ and acts as an evil villain who despite his condition, he becomes a strong character that does not let his condition to stop him from doing great things. A lot of inspiration can easily be drawn from his demeanor and influence in depicting that physical disability does not amount to an inability.

Dr. Loveless had a physical defect that was symbolic making him appear intimidating, paradoxical, and grotesque. In equal measures, he depicted determination that underscored his inability to walk. Half of his body was lost courtesy of the Civil War. In his final war with the hero James West, Dr. Loveless uses his mechanical legs to get the better of his opponent. His mechanical spider was also equipped with prosthetic weapons that were meant to give him an advantage over his opponents.

Because he lost almost half of his body in the American Civil War, he developed a certain determination to concur and control America. Despite his physical situation, Dr. Loveless did not lose his sense of self-esteem. In an instance, he tells Jim West that he is not an animal, but rather a visionary genius. He was also able to assert himself as a prominent member of the society due to his vast knowledge in science, technology, and weapons. He was able to kidnapped prisoners despite his condition and turned them into slaves who made weapons for him.

Dr. Loveless used the mechanical spider as a weapon. Although it was used against him by West, a factor that led to his death, the mechanical spider was a metaphoric representation of a wheelchair. It was a depiction that even though he couldn't walk, he was compensated with immense qualities that made him a successful character in the movie.
