The proposed project explores the anti-slavery movement formed by the oppressed minority during the colonial period in the United States. The abolitionist was a social association committed to political push to free slaves from forced work without compensation, end racial segregation, and discrimination. The abolitionists fought for the emancipation of slaves from their slave masters by rioting and boycotting from work (Grant, 2015). The movement advocated for freedom from forced labor and pushed for the equal rights of all immigrants. It heightened the rift and threatened the unity of the whole country as the immigrants were molested and even killed by their colonial masters.
I have choosen the anti-slavery movement because it made a significant impact on the American society. Were it not for abolitionist and religious movements, slavery would still be in existence in America. However, the movement championed freedom, equality, and justice to all immigrants (Ritchie, 2016). The grouping led to the end of slavery after a long period of struggle for independence. Numerous anti-slavery societies were formed to liberate the country from oppression of colonial settlers who enslaved Africans to work in their big farms. The movements sent many petitions to Congress to push for the end of slavery in the slave states.

What I know about the civil society groups that were formed during that period is that they encouraged their members to fight for rights and mutual respect. The abolitionist movements staged several meetings to push the colonial government to end slavery in the United States. Tony (2016) asserted that declarations were formed which coerced members to fight for freedom and emancipate slaves from colonialists through non-violent activities of moral suasion. The society groups encouraged disobedience of slaves in farms, boycott of slave manufactured products, and substitution of prejudice with the power of love.
The research about abolitionist movements of the colonial era teaches that independence and freedom were not given on a silver plate. The forefathers fought for freedom through bloodshed to acquire freedom. The civil society movements were committed to liberate Africans and other slaves from the bondage of servitude (Ritchie, 2016). The peaceful coexistence and freedom that people enjoy today came at a price.
