In certain instances, a woman’s pregnancy can end on its own (Ending a pregnancy, n.d). This is known as a miscarriage. In some cases, a woman decides to deliberately terminate her pregnancy and this is termed as induced abortion. It is done by either through surgery or medication. Even though it is viewed as a safe procedure (Abortion procedures-surgical, n.d) when performed by health specialists, all induced abortion procedures are dangerous. Surgical abortion can lead to problems such as excessive bleeding, infection, and destruction to parts of the reproductive system. Induced abortion act has caused many arguments among societies over the past decades. To outline when and if to become a parent, the right to harmless abortion, and the right to healthy sexuality is a subject of social justice and human rights.

How abortion is a social issue

Generally, abortion is regarded as an extreme safe process in countries that has legalized it. Restricting abortion acts does not by any given chance minimize its rates but only moderates its safety operations. As per the report from (WHO) World Health Organization, 20 million of the 42 million abortions carried out yearly are dangerous and prohibited (Abortion- a matter of human rights and social justice, (n.d). Rural, young and low –income women are always the victims of dangerous abortion around the globe. A huge number of these women are already mothers who are struggling to cater for additional children. With no right decision left, the victims desperately risk their lives in an attempt to abort by using unsafe chemicals. They also end up seeking assistance from unqualified medical personnel. In every 10 minutes, which is equivalent to 47 000 women, annually dies as a result of unsafe abortion. Preventing deaths caused by unsafe abortion is absolutely not a hard task. According to “Abortion- a matter of human rights and social justice,” (n.d), more than one third of all pregnancies are inadvertent. Yearly, one quarter of all pregnant women decide to carry out an abortion globally. The most common executed type of medical intervention in countries worldwide is induced abortion. Permitting abortion could be the most appropriate method to avert premature deaths and unnecessary harm for many number of women around the globe. Presently, around 25 percent of the resident stays in countries with high restrictive laws that either allow abortion for the purpose of saving the life of the pregnant woman or entirely ban abortion. For example, Latin America, Africa and Asia. The abortion deterring laws in these counties infringe the human rights of women in reference made at the UN International conference on growth and population in Cairo, the universal declaration of human rights, international covenant on economics, social and cultural rights, and conference on woman in Beijing. Abortion is a major social stigma in societies across the globe, therefore legalizing it will create health justice to all women regardless of their geography, income, race, and age.

Why abortion is a social issue

Skirmish logicians highlight the certainty of compulsion, dominance, alteration in society, and conflict. According to “Why abortion in America has become a social issue”, (n.d) , the standpoint of skirmish is centered on the knowledge that society comprises of different collections that tussle among each other to achieve the fright societal assets that are regarded prized, this can be through authority to inflict an individual’s values on society, money, and prestige. Dissimilar reaction has aroused due to the legalization of abortion act. Women were once aborting due to the reason that they were not in need of a child. Currently, the reason being given appear different. Women are now aborting because they have been forced by either boyfriends or husbands that are not ready to become fathers. They are finally forced to abort due to panic of dropping out of school, becoming homeless by being chased out of the house into the streets by parents, and losing their jobs. For this reason, abortion can result to a condition known as “P.A.S, S”. P.A.S.S is a kind of post-traumatic stress disorder which progresses in the time a woman is not able to emotionally tolerate her responses. This syndrome can result to committing suicide, depression, and eating patterns. But there some are victims who abort and successfully goes on with lives as usual. Another point as to why abortion becomes a social issue is that, poor pregnant women in need of assistance are regarded “Welfare Mothers”. This creates a social stigma that actually affect them since they become responsible, both economical and physical as the men on the account obligate their culpability. Also, by allowing abortion act, pre-choice men can simply justify their recklessness toward women that have decided not to abort. In as much as women can be given an opportunity to abort, men have also been given a chance. The future belong to the next generation, so the act of abortion violates the future generation. If the aborted children could be given a chance, perhaps they could become future doctors, president, teachers, or politicians.

Conclusion

According to Christian ethics, abortion is a sin and should not be argued on. But for the purpose of narrowing down the rampant society conflict, restricting abortion is not a solution, neither is allowing it. For instance, just like people impose the blame on the companies that manufacture tobacco for the smoker’s problems, the society need to be blamed on how they mount pressure on young women on the issue of abortion. If the future of tomorrow depends on today generation, then I see no reason for women to abort. Similarly, there is no reason for the society to blame the victims. Abortion being a major hiccup in the society, I think is prudent to establish a long lasting solution to it. Unless the abortion is being performed under relevant situations, societies across the world should focus on the saying “charity begins at home” as a method educating their children.
