Going through the Brandman University policy on Academic Integrity was an eye opener and surprising at the same time. Though the issue of plagiarism has been in the public domain for quite long time, I realized the danger it poses to the future professionals is grave. Plagiarism is more of a threat to the future intellectual than it is a crime. It is also shocking that plagiarism has significantly increased in colleges and university. I believe that technology is supposed to make it easier to research and come out with original work rather than use technology to “steal” other people’s work.

Academic integrity policy is necessary to discourage students from presenting the paper they fully understand is not their own work. Lack of academic integrity undermines the student learning, and credibility of the entire institutions. There is, therefore, need for a higher stand of academic integrity to ensure both the reputation of the student and that of the institution remains positive (McCabe, 2012).

Academic integrity policy in any institution reflect well on the institutions strive to care for the wellbeing of the society and the future generation. When student lack academic integrity, and the institution fails to come up with anti-plagiarism police, they form a perfect tool to diminish the students and even trust of the public to academic endeavors (Wangaard & Stephens, 2011).

Universities and other learning institutions, beyond guiding on education matters, have a responsibility to the community. To ensure they produce qualified professionals who have genuinely passed all test to graduate. However, without proper policies and rules, producing genuine graduate is impossible. Those rules should, therefore, be designed to promote high academic integrity, preserve the reputation of the institution and give the society true professional (McCabe, 2012).
