Medicare is the official medical database used by the U.S government to provide data for all healthcare facilities. Data present in the database is critical to determining social and healthcare issues that impact patient safety and outcomes. An extensive search in the database for data on nursing homes returned three crucial variables: health inspections, staffing, and resident care quality (Medicare.gov, n.d.). Health inspections are essential in ascertaining health facilities' state and assessing the measures taken to ensure patient safety is guaranteed. Without health inspections, health facilities will remain reluctant to implement policies and strategies that promote patient safety and outcomes. Most patient issues occur due to negligence by health facilities and professionals in providing care services. Relevant nursing bodies and authorities expect health facilities to maintain high standards of nursing in their practice. Therefore, health inspections are meant to evaluate these standards of practice.

On the other hand, staffing remains a significant issue in healthcare. The current literature on nurse staffing demonstrates the correlation between nursing ratios and patient safety, acknowledging the increased mortality, mobility, and patient safety risks when the patient-to-nurse ratio increase (Brooks Carthon et al., 2019). Nursing homes and other health facilities with an understaffed workforce will face challenges attending to all patients. As such, average results on the Medicare database denotes a reasonably staffed nursing home that manages to attend to its patients. However, the risks of patient safety and outcomes are inevitable under such circumstances. Lastly, the quality of resident care also contributes to patient safety and outcomes. A conducive environment fosters patient recovery, and as such, an above-average rating on this variable is an indication that the facility is well maintained. Despite these ratings on the nursing home, much needs to be improved to ensure optimal patient safety and outcomes.
